I had a mixed experience at Protea Hotel By Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers. The location is great and the breakfast was a standout, but I faced issues with room quality and service. The air conditioning was a problem, and check-in was less than welcoming, which put a damper on my stay.

Rooms
5.0
I had a Junior Suite that was spacious with a decent bathroom, but some rooms have issues with outdated amenities and air conditioning. My experience varied as I had to switch rooms due to the air conditioning not working properly.
Service
5.0
The service during breakfast was friendly, especially from Albert, but I found the front desk staff unengaged. There were hiccups with the responsiveness to my requests, which was disappointing.
Location
8.0
The hotel is situated in a nice, safe area which is close to the business center—definitely a plus for me, as everything I needed was nearby. It's also only about half an hour from the airport.
Dining
9.0
Breakfast was delicious with a good variety, and I had one of the best filet steaks I've ever tried from their dinner menu. Overall, the dining experience was a highlight.
Facilities
6.0
The amenities are decent, but the gym gets crowded in the mornings, and the outdoor pool could use some warmth. WiFi was also insufficient, which was frustrating.

I had a wonderful stay at the Protea Hotel By Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making my experience enjoyable. While I did face some issues with my breakfast inclusion, the facilities and dining options were overall very good. The location offered easy access to local attractions, though the parking was less appealing.

I had a great time at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers! The location is unbeatable, right near the Wanderers cricket ground and with lovely views from my room. There were some renovation sounds, but they didn’t bother me too much. While I enjoyed my meals, especially breakfast, some aspects of room service could use a boost.

Rooms
8.0
I had room 517, which was spacious and offered fantastic views of the cricket ground and Johannesburg suburbs. Overall, I found my room comfortable, though I heard some complaints about cleanliness from other travelers.
Service
7.0
The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Wynand, who sorted out my room issue when I checked in. However, their responsiveness could be improved, as I had to follow up a couple of times with my requests.
Location
9.0
The location is perfect for cricket fans like me, just a short walk to the Wanderers stadium. It’s also great for exploring nearby areas like Melrose Arch and Rosebank, but it does sit near a busy road.
Dining
8.0
The breakfast was a highlight with lots of options, and my fillet steak for dinner was one of the best I’ve had. The restaurant's atmosphere was nice, but I did find room service lacking in variety and quality.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel had good facilities, including a nice pool area and a convenient travel desk. I appreciated the free shuttle service, which made getting around super easy, but sometimes, I wished it was easier to arrange pickups.

6.2/10

My stay at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers was decent, though it didn't quite stand out. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made my experience pleasant overall. However, the location felt quite isolated, and the hotel had a standard atmosphere that seemed more suited for business travelers. The breakfast options were good but could use more variety.

Rooms
6.0
The room I stayed in was spacious and fairly clean, but the carpet could have been better maintained. I had a mini fridge and a comfortable desk as well. The bathroom was quite large, which I appreciated.
Service
6.0
Most of the staff were really friendly and helpful, allowing me an early check-in. However, service in the bar and restaurant was a bit slow at times, which was frustrating.
Location
5.0
The hotel's location was not ideal for tourists. I felt it was safer to stay indoors at night. It’s a bit far from attractions, which made it somewhat inconvenient for my plans.
Dining
6.0
The breakfast buffet had some good options, including an omelet station. Dinner at the restaurant was pleasant, and I enjoyed the burger I ordered. Still, I think the food variety could improve for more adventurous tastes.
Facilities
6.0
The hotel had some nice amenities like a small pool and a gym, but the pool was quite small for my liking. I did appreciate the free Wi-Fi in the lobby, though it was inconsistent on the upper floors.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel, thanks to the comfortable rooms and friendly staff, but I did notice some issues with noise and dining options. It was nice to have a shuttle service available, though I found some areas lacking in the gym and pool facilities.

My room was spacious and clean, perfect for relaxing after my long flight. The bed was comfy, and I appreciated the modern decor.
Service

The staff were all quite helpful and friendly, especially Ricardo, who went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. Although I had a long wait during check-in, everyone was accommodating.
Location

The hotel's location suited me well since I was meeting friends nearby, but it was somewhat distant from major attractions like Mandela Square.
Dining

I found the restaurant options a bit disappointing, with a lack of variety. However, I did enjoy the malva pudding and a well-prepared breakfast; the chef's omelettes were a highlight!
Facilities

While the amenities like the shuttle service were great, I was underwhelmed by the gym. Plus, the pool's location wasn't ideal since you have to walk through the restaurant to access it.
